Just wanted to give this thread a bump, after the split, since this post is the oldest, and actually sent the only valid part of the suggestion to the second page, which really isn't that far.
That, and I heartily approve.
Brutal Mauling is useless, and serves to do nothing other than make the Bear the WORST pet in the game, hands down.
For reference, please read Jenosavel and Epinephrine's Guide to Pets.

Bears are the worst pets in the game with or without Brutal Mauling.
Brutal Mauling simply serves to make them even worse. It's an attack skill that's worse than a normal attack!
Peace,
-CxE

yeah brutal mauling is poo, but it is fun to use the pet interrupt attacks while they are winding up so it looks like it serves a purpose.
instead of removing it they could... make it do something!

Brutal Mauling should at least do something to balance it out a bit.

This is great idea. Certainly gives some incentive to take the time to cap a bear in pre.

Even better, give each pet type a unique attack that happens randomly but has a cool (and useful) effect.
Brutal Mauling- does +damage and knocks down a moving opponent
Crippling Pinch (crab)- does +damage and cripples opponent for (level / 2) seconds
Venom Fangs (spider)- does +damage and poisons opponent for (level /2) seconds
Deep Bite (wolf)- +damage and deep wound for (level /2) seconds
Frenzied Scratch (birds)- +damage and bleeding for (level /2) seconds
Flaming Sweep (phoenix)- +damage and burning for (level /4) seconds
etc...
Then you could REALLY have some fun with pets, and picking which one to have would make a real bearing on your play style.

The Phoenix isn't really on fire, so the burning would seem odd.
But the Brutal Mauling is such a long attack, when I fight in Pre Sear, I count on those attacks, because the +damage isn't proportional to how it takes for the bear to attack.

Nice to have the attack do something other than a cool animation.
